As a middle school teacher, I find the subject of digital privacy very interesting. We can project, but do not know the consequences of our online actions in the future. A virtual record is being created, and unfortunately not all of it is positive. When I was younger, if I said something regrettable or subscribed to a particular ideology temporarily as my opinions and dogma formed, it was not necessarily recorded. Now, young people need to be taught how to navigate their digital citizenship and footprint almost immediately. Date collection is happening in vast scopes. What is to be done with this data is yet to be determined. Because the capability of data collection and sorting is ever evolving, so must our understanding of how the data is used. Mistakes in judgement can become permanent stains on a good person's record. Is this fair? All digital citizens need to inform themselves regarding what information is being collected and how it is used.
